My final reflection!

When I started first of batxillerat, my level of English, compared with my current level was much lower. Now I have seen my first post from last year "My weekends work: refree" and compared it with last I wrote this term and I was very surprise. My first redaction didn't have connectors, it didn't have interesting vocabulary, and only had short sentences and used present or past simple. Now when I see my last post I realize how much I have improved with these aspects of writing. The vocabulary is better, the sentences are more elaborate, and I use more connectors and more conditionals. Also I know to use an introduction and a conclusion. The toppics I have written about these last week are more interesting than the ideas I had in first of batxillerat. I think that my use of verbs tenses has improved, but still it is not perfect because I have just started private classes.

Also I compared my first oral presentation of last year with my last oral presentation of this year and for me, the most important change, is the pronunciation. The way that now I talk is much better than last year. In my first oral I was very nervous and was speaking very quickly. I am so nervous in presentations now, but if I know what I have to say, I quickly calmed. Furthermore, it is not a relaxing experience.

Another change that I see is the time that I can talk now in English because last year was so difficult for me, it was difficult to make my presentation sufficiently long. Now, although I still think it is difficult, I have more capacity to talk and communication with my teacher is better.

I'm happy to see the improvements in my English in my years in batxillerat. I still have a lot more to learn and I know English is very important for my life in the future. If I can I will try to study and try not to forget the English I have learnt.

Dear Mr Ritch I am a student at IES Castelló d'Empúries and I'm writting to inform you of my opinions about Nuclear power stations. Every year more power stations are built and I know that we need power for bussines and in general for all people, but I don't believe that we need to depend on nuclear energy; I think that we should for search alternatives energies.

After the recent disaster in Japan, we should be trying to prevent anything like this happening againd at least we should make sure that all power stations are safe. New safety precautions should be implemented. I know this involves spending a lot of money but so many people have died in Japan, it is the minimum that we can do.

I don't believe near a power station, there are only 4 nuclear power stations in Catalonia, but in France there are more than 30. The products produced by a nuclear disaster can affect countries sorrounding; look at what happened in Hiroshima! I think that we need to do something. I hope that you agree.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully

Should you look after your parents?

In the past, there was a strong moral obligation on people to look after their parents. Nowadays, on the other hand, more and more people are choosing to put their elderly parents in special "homes".
There are several arguments in favour of old people's homes. Firstly, the residents are well-looked after by trained staff and there is usually a doctor permanently on duty. Secondly, the old people are among people of their own age and interests, and, at the same time, their children are free to live own lives.
On the other hand, children owe a great deal to their parents, so should be willing to take care of them. It cannot be society's responsibility to do this. In addition, grandparents can help their children and have a beneficial effect on their children's children.
In short, I believe that children are under a moral obligation to look after their aged parents. It is good for the old people themselves, their children, and their grandchildren.

Ingrid's first holiday without her parents.

It was Ingrid's first holiday without her parents. She was in a hotel on Ibiza with two school friends, having dinner in their hotel on the first night.
"What would you like?" Ingrid looked, for the first time, at their waiter. Her heart missed a beat. Later, when he came with their deserts, she asked his advice about the best clubs in town. "I'll show you," he said.
From then on, when Jaime wasn't working, they were inseparable. He was very romantic, unlike the English boys she knew.
Parting was painful for both of them at the end of the fortnight. They could not stop crying at the airport.
Two months later, life in Manchester was back to grey normal. She now recognized that her relationship with Jaime had been a typical holiday romance, enjoyed but best forgotten. But then, one rainy evening, there was a knock at the door. She opened it. There, on the doorstep, was Jaime. Her mother called from the kitchen, "Who is it?"
"It's just a friend," Ingrid answered. "An old friend..."

Do murderers deserve the death penalty?

Recently, people have again begun to discuss the issue of whether murderers deserve the death penalty. However, in my opinion, the death penalty is ineffective, risky and barbaric.
In most countries the death penalty was abolished long ago. In my view, there are very good reasons for this. Firstly, capital punishment is not a deterrent. In American states where the death penalty has recently been reintroduced, the murder rate has not fallen. Secondly, the death penalty is final. Mistakes cannot be corrected after a man has been executed. Finally, I believe that murder is wrong and this includes murder, or executions, by the state. As far as I'm concerned, the state has no more right to take a life than an individual has.
In conclusion, I think that the death penalty should definitely not be used in a humane, civilized society.

Time to decide!

Next year, general elections will be celebrate in Spain. There are eleven parties in Spanish congress but the majority of the members of there are from PSOE (partido socialista obrero español) led by the actual president, José Luis Rodriguez Zapatero and from PP (Partido Popular) led by Mariano Rajoy.
Before the last general elections in 2004, the PP held power with an absolute majority, but since 2004 PSOE are governing. But I think that the PP will be win general elections because Zapatero has come us in the crisis. Also, I think that if Zapatero bring us out the crisis he will be the president for another four years.

Mobile phones, nowadays

Nowadays, nearly everybody has a mobile phone, since they are fifteen or sixteen years old, people use to think that they need one of them.
Mobile phones are, every day, more and more technological, they have several uses.
They aren’t only used to phone somebody, they also can take photos, videos, music reproductor, internet and so on,,
In my view, mobile phones are necessary in the present society: people want to be connected, it doesn’t matter the countries or how far is the other person. Mobile phones can connect with a person who is in the other side of the world.
Of course, there are some disadvantages. Some people think that these little machines can be annoying sometimes, because they can ring at the cinema, in class and in any place, time or situation. If you want to be calm in a situation, for example catching a film, you have tot turn off your mobile, if not, it can ring every single moment.
Another point for discussion is that they can be so expensive, in fact, mobile phones are a business. People spend a lot of money in these machines.

In conclusion, mobile phones can be wrong sometimes, but I think they make our life easier.
It’s great to be able to speak at anytime and everywhere with everybody.
